What’s my level?
A1+
For the A1+ course you need to have at least completed a basic Dutch course at level A1. If you haven’t, but you do speak a little bit of Dutch, please read below what the minimal requirements are for this course.
Vocabulary
You know some elementary vocabulary and expressions which you can use to describe yourself and some specific situations, such as where you work.
Grammar
Your knowledge of Dutch grammar is limited, but you do know some elementary constructions, such as sentence structure and the present and past tense.
Fluency
You use short, isolated, ready-made sentences, with a lot of pauses to search for expressions, less familiar words and to correct yourself.
Coherence
You use basic connection words such as ‘en’, ‘of’ and ‘dan’,
Pronunciation
The pronunciation of the learned words and sentences is understandable for listeners who are used to speak to people who do not master Dutch yet.

A2+
For the A2+ course, we expect you to know the basics of Dutch language, or even a bit more. If you are not sure about your level, please read below what the minimal requirements are for this course:
Vocabulary
You have sufficient vocabulary to communicate in everyday situations related to familiar situations and topics.
Grammar
You use a number of simple constructions correctly, but systematically make elementary errors - for example, by using different tenses interchangeably and not paying attention to congruence; however, it is usually clear what you are trying to say.
Fluency
You’re able to communicate in short expressions, despite short silences, false starts and reformulations.
Coherence
You use the most common connection words (en, maar, want, dus, omdat, toen etc.) to connect single sentences to tell a story or to describe something as a simple list of points.
Pronunciation
The pronunciation is generally clear enough to be understood despite a noticeable foreign accent. Listeners will ask you to repeat sentences from time to time.
